It follows Billy on the day of his high school graduation, when he discovers a trunk of letters from his late mother, sending him on a journey through his mother's past, where family secrets, old romances, and enduring love reveal the truth about who she was—and who he is meant to become.
The songwriting pays homage to the lyrical world of Joni Mitchell and Carole King, with melodies and harmonies echoing and drawing on the great artists that followed them. It is an array of nouveau-folk, pop, country-pop and soul music that is tailor-made for storytelling.
With an ensemble of characters from all walks of life, every person in the theatre will find a connection. Audience members will leave reflecting on their own direction, their journey, and their fulfillment, and the idea that "love is what we leave behind," humming many of the earworm songs long after.
